  FamilySearch's index of the Seattle passenger lists, read by the archive on 20 September 2026, has Zelman Josef Lichtenstein, born about 1904 in Poland, arriving at Seattle in 1940. The register's compiled line gives 1904, and the two agree. The name occurs once on the register, and a Polish-born passenger landing at Seattle in 1940 fits the route through Japan, so the entry is taken as this person's under the archive's rule of 19 September 2026 for records from the route.

  The manifest sheet itself has the family on the Heian Maru, which sailed from Kobe on 16 October 1940 and reached Seattle on the 31st: Zelman Josef Lichtenstein, aged 38 years and 10 months, married, a clerk, born at Mława, last residence Kaunas, on a Polish passport and an American non-immigrant visa, No. 33, issued at Kaunas on 24 July 1940; with him his wife Rysza Rosa, 41, born at Wołkowysk, and their daughter Natalia, 8, born at Warsaw. The inspector's later note says they were admitted for permanent residence at Niagara Falls, New York, on 14 September 1943. The register gives his age as 36, two years less than the purser's, and a wife Roza of 41 and a child Natalia of 7, a year younger than the sheet's 8; and sends them to Canada and then the United States, which is the road the Niagara Falls note records.
