  The Buenos Aires Maru sailed from Kobe on 21 January 1941 for South America and called at the port of Los Angeles in early February, where her through passengers were kept on board; its manifest has Joachim Szporn, aged 69, married, a merchant, Polish, born at Żarki, last residence Kaunas, with his wife Maria Mechla, 63, born at Warsaw, and on the lines below them his son Jakob and Jakob's wife. The register gives him a wife Pechla of 63 and Brazil as his destination; its age for him is 64, five years younger than the purser's; the register carries a second entry for the same man.
