  The Buenos Aires Maru sailed from Kobe on 21 January 1941 for South America and called at the port of Los Angeles in early February, where her through passengers were kept on board; its manifest has Herman Nucher, single, a lawyer, born at Warsaw, last residence Wilno, with the Bock family on the lines beside him; the purser's figure for his age reads 59 on the film, where the register and the 1940 Vilna refugee list both make him 39, born 1901. The trade and the city agree, and the name occurs once on the register.   The National Archives holds an alien case file for Herman Nucher, born 23 May 1901 in Poland, who entered the United States at New York on 8 August 1949 (file A7263527, NARA catalog NAID 495523282). The name and the birth year agree with the register's line and the 1940 Vilna list; in 1941 he had passed through Los Angeles in transit for South America, and the file shows him entering the United States for good eight years later.
