A photograph shows Saul Mashbaum with Nobuki Sugihara, Chiune Sugihara's son, at the dedication of a Sugihara park in Jerusalem. The recipients' list displayed at the event carries his father's name at No. 804. No visa document itself appears in the photograph.

  FamilySearch's index of the Seattle passenger lists, read by the archive on 20 September 2026, has Szaja Maszbaum, born about 1908 in Poland, arriving at Seattle in 1940. The register's compiled line gives 1908, and the two agree. The name occurs once on the register, and a Polish-born passenger landing at Seattle in 1940 fits the route through Japan, so the entry is taken as this person's under the archive's rule of 19 September 2026 for records from the route.

  The Heian Maru sailed from Yokohama on 10 December 1940 and reached Seattle on 24 December 1940; the ninth page of its manifest, thirty names, mostly Japanese and Scandinavian, has Szaja Maszbaum, aged 32, married, a teacher, reading English, Polish, born at Bilgoraj, last residence Vilnius, on a non-quota immigration visa for ministers of religion, No. 5, issued at Tokyo on 4 December 1940, six days before sailing, admitted alone. The register gives his age as 32, and this is the line's first record beyond the visa.
