The register's compiled line gives 1897, and the two agree. The President Coolidge sailed from Kobe on 9 November 1940, took shore leave at Honolulu on the 17th and landed at San Francisco in the following week; its manifest, seven names on the page, has the Brand family: Chaim Brand, aged 43, married, a bookkeeper, Polish, born at Węgrów, last residence Wilno, on an American transit visa, No. 11, issued at Kaunas on 22 July 1940, with his wife Malka, 41, and their daughter Nechuma, 13, a student, on the next two lines; a later note records papers issued to the family in December 1941.
