What is known
The image shows a passport page bearing Chiune Sugihara's handwritten Japanese transit visa stamp, amended to read 'Seen for the journey to U.S.A. through Japan, Consul du Japon \u00e0 Kaunas,' dated 1 August 1940. Alongside it is a Soviet exit/transit visa (No. 104652) issued to Lejzer Lewinsztejn, authorizing him to cross the USSR border at Vladivostok within a limited number of days. Together the two visas illustrate the escape route many Jewish refugees took from Lithuania across Siberia to Japan and onward to the United States.
