This displayed document combines a Dutch transit visa (No. 1213) issued by honorary consul Jan Zwartendijk in Kaunas on 24 July 1940, permitting travel to Surinam, Curaçao and other Netherlands colonies, with a Japanese transit visa stamped by Consul Chiune Sugihara on 31 August 1940 allowing passage through Japan en route to those destinations. The holder, Salomon Beker, thus obtained both the Curaçao 'end visa' and the Sugihara transit visa needed to escape Lithuania.

It carries the declaration of the Netherlands Consulate at Kaunas, No. 1213, written out by hand and signed by the acting consul on 27 July 1940, and beside it the Japanese transit visa, also written out by hand rather than stamped, dated 31/VII 1940 and signed Consul du Japon a Kaunas with the consulate's seal and the consul's red personal seal. That date is the issue date the register records for this entry, and it agrees exactly.
