What is known
Movsha-Girshas Teresiskinas of register No.506 was Moses Terescheschkin, a chemist who lived in Memel with his wife. He was the elder brother of Mera (Meta) Zalkowitz, whose own family — holding a Metropol Hotel visa from Sugihara, amended by hand toward Canada — reached Vancouver. The kinship was established by Prof. Ruth Leiserowitz in August 2026, from Lithuanian records showing shared parents. What became of Moses and his wife is not established. The printed memoir of Jacob Zalkowitz, excerpted in Livio Sirovich's book, follows the family's escape from Memel through Kovno and the Trans-Siberian railway to Japan and Canada, and describes a brother of Meta's, with his family, in the Soviet visa queue at Kovno on the day the office closed. The excerpt does not name that brother. The kinship recorded on this page rests on Prof. Dr Ruth Leiserowitz's reading of the Lithuanian records, which give Meta and this man the same parents in Telšiai; the memoir corroborates the family's route, not the identification. It states no fate for him: the passage about a brother later killed in Lithuania concerns Jacob Zalkowitz's own brother, not Meta's.
