Archive note, 30 August 2026 — a correction to the Kobe attributions. Thirteen register entries had been matched to two lines each of the Kobe refugee register, on the strength of a similar surname. In seven cases the two lines described… This entry had been given Kobe entry 16 as well as entry 19. Entry 16, on page 9, is BERNSTEIN Szymon, born 1904 at Krakow — a different surname and a different man. Entry 19 is Biberstein of Wloclawek, a manufacturer, whose uncle L. Bieberstein lived at 21 Bennett Avenue, New York; that agrees with the register's chinaware manufacturer of 46, and it is the one that remains.
