  FamilySearch's index of the Seattle passenger lists, read by the archive on 20 September 2026, has Szmul E Taub, born about 1901 in Poland, arriving at Seattle in 1946 on the Mount Greylock. The register's compiled line gives 1901, and the two are 0 years apart, and the name occurs once on the register. The ship's manifest heading says she sailed from Shanghai, and a passenger born in Poland landing at Seattle in 1946 from Shanghai is the route's end: the refugees who waited out the war there. So the entry is taken as this person's under the archive's rule of 19 September 2026 for records from the route.   The Agudath Israel organisation of refugees from Poland in Shanghai listed Szmul Eljasz Taub among its members on 24 December 1945, born in 1901 in Wodzislaw. On 31 May 1946 his father, Grand Rabbi I. H. Taub of the Bronx, wrote to UNRRA asking for help to bring him to the United States: he wrote that his son had escaped from Warsaw, reached Japan, and had been held by the Japanese as a civilian internee after December 1941, and was living at 119 Wayside Road. UNRRA replied on 14 June that the Polish quota was exhausted. In April 1946 the Joint Distribution Committee's migration department listed him with Herman Taub of the Bronx as his contact.
