FamilySearch's index of the Los Angeles passenger lists, read by the archive on 20 September 2026, has Chawa Szmaragd, born about 1913 in Warsow, Poland, arriving at Los Angeles in 1940. The register's compiled line gives 1912, and the two are 1 year apart. The Ginyo Maru sailed from Yokohama on 24 October 1940 with a handful of Polish passengers holding no American visas, bound beyond the United States: the inspector at Honolulu ordered them kept on board on 7 November, shore leave was refused at San Pedro, and the ship left San Pedro on 20 November 1940 with them. Its manifest has Chawa Szmaragd, aged 27, married, a housewife, Polish, born at Warsaw, last residence Vilnius. The register's compiled line gives her age as 28.
