  The manifest of the Hikawa Maru, Kobe to Seattle, arrived 17 November 1940 (sheet 7, line 4), read in full by the archive on 3 October 2026 after David Rosen found the line: Lifsycas, Judelis, 54, single, a merchant, reading and writing Polish, a Lithuanian national, born at Zaslaw (Zasliai) with the country amended by hand to U.S.S.R.; last permanent residence Vilnius; United States immigration visa No. 317 under the Soviet quota, issued at Kaunas on 16 August 1940, ten days before the Sugihara visa; nearest relative at home 'Father: Victor Chelem, Vilnius' as typed; going to Omaha, Nebraska, to his brother Jack Lifsycas of Jones Street, with a ticket through and the passage paid by the brother, never in the United States before. The name occurs once on the register and the Kaunas-issued visa and the Vilnius residence tie the record to the route. The compiled list gives his age as 59 and his next destination as England; the manifest, a primary record, gives 54 and the United States.
