Where this comes from

• Manifest of alien passengers, SS President Coolidge, sailing from Kobe 9 November 1940, arrived San Francisco November 1940 (NARA, passenger lists of vessels arriving at San Francisco, M1410, film 366; read on FamilySearch's copy)
The President Coolidge sailed from Kobe on 9 November 1940, took shore leave at Honolulu on the 17th and landed at San Francisco in the following week; its manifest, seven names on the page, has Elizabeth, called Liza, Ippa, aged 37, married, a teacher, Lithuanian, last residence Kaunas, on a non-quota immigration visa, No. 22, issued at Kaunas on 23 August 1940. The register's line reads Liza Ippa, Lithuanian; the register gives her age as 37. (The sheet is in the National Archives' passenger lists of vessels arriving at San Francisco, microfilm M1410; the archive read FamilySearch's copy.)
• United States, Census, 1950 — FamilySearch, index entries read 24 October 2026
FamilySearch's index of the 1950 census, read on 24 October 2026, has Elizabeth Ippa, aged 45 and born in Lithuania, a citizen, living in Queens Village, New York, on 10 April 1950 with her husband, George S. Ippa, who was born in Lithuania about 1884. The register has Liza Ippa, a Lithuanian teacher from Kaunas who landed at San Francisco in November 1940; the surname occurs once on the register and the name, the birthplace, the birth year within two years and the marriage agree, so the entry is taken as this woman. Her naturalization is indexed at the District Court in Brooklyn in 1944.
