What is known

This is a Japanese transit visa stamp issued at the Consulate of Japan in Kaunas, Lithuania, dated August 21, 1940. It permits the journey through Japan to Surinam, Curacao and other Netherlands colonies. The document bears the Consulate du Japon a Kaunas seal and the signature of the acting consul Chiune Sugihara.

Czechoslovakian travel passport issued for Egon Hertzka in 1936, containing a Curacao visa, a Japan transit visa signed by Chiune Sugihara, and many border crossing seals. Sugihara, Japanese Vice-Consul in Lithuania, issued transit visas enabling more than 6,000 Jewish refugees to escape to Japanese territory.

A Czechoslovakian travel passport was issued to Egon Hertzka in 1936. It contains a Curacao visa, a Japan transit visa, and numerous border crossing seals, reflecting an escape route facilitated by Chiune Sugihara's transit visas issued to Jewish refugees in Lithuania.
