Where this comes from
Manifest of alien passengers, SS Asama Maru, sailing from Yokohama, Feb. 20 (day uncertain), 1941, arrived San Francisco date not read (US National Archives, M1410, film 368; read on FamilySearch's copy) The National Archives' San Francisco passenger list (FamilySearch's copy) shows Nochum Kantorowicz, a journalist born in Minsk, sailing from Yokohama on the Asama Maru on 20 February 1941 on an American visa issued in Tokyo, to join his sister in New York.
Der Forverts (New York), 31 May 1977 (National Library of Israel, Historical Jewish Press) Nochum Kantorowicz, a journalist born in Minsk, sailed from Yokohama in February 1941 to join his sister in New York. The Forverts of 31 May 1977 reported the death of Nokhum Kantorovitsh, "the longtime journalist" ("דער לאנגיאריקער זשורנאליסט נחום קאנטאראוויטש"), who had died on the night of Sunday 29 May at the age of eighty. The notice says he had edited a Zionist daily in Warsaw and had been a leader of the Poale Zion party in Poland, and that in America he had worked on research about the Holocaust, the ghetto uprisings and the partisans. The archive attaches the notice because the full name occurs once on the register, he was a journalist of the right age (eighty in 1977, forty-three in 1940), and he came from Poland by way of Japan (Forverts, New York, 31 May 1977, National Library of Israel, Historical Jewish Press).
