  The National Archives' Seattle passenger list (FamilySearch's copy) shows Jakob Szulim Herc, 47, journalist, with his wife Ryfka and their two children, landing at Seattle from Yokohama on the Heian Maru on 31 October 1940 on American visitor's visas from Kaunas. They gave Kaunas as their last home and were going to his uncle Menachem Herz in the Bronx.
