Kuba and Lilka Kronzylberg fled Warsaw for Lithuania in September 1939 and took Sugihara visas Nos.1710-1711 on 13 August 1940 — entered in the register as "Krojzilberg". They crossed Siberia to Kobe, were expelled to Shanghai in September 1941, and then came the cruelest near-miss in the archive: Australia granted them visas for the second week of December 1941, and they travelled to Hong Kong to board the boat. Pearl Harbor was bombed; the boat never came. They returned to Shanghai and survived the war on Kuba's hospital-administration wages and JDC relief.
