He reached San Francisco on 10 April 1941 on the Kamakura Maru from Yokohama, entered as Hercko Zygas, a tailor born in Częstochowa, on an American visitor's visa, according to the passenger list held by the National Archives (FamilySearch's copy). A possible record, not yet confirmed as this person: the Forverts of 17 April 1941 lists, among the Jewish political refugees from Poland who had just reached New York by way of Siberia and Japan, a Warsaw needle worker and trade-union activist named Herts Zygas (National Library of Israel, Historical Jewish Press).
