Line 7 of the sheet, and it returns a name the ledger never carried. NAIMARK, DAWID LEJBUS, 50, married, JOURNALIST, Polish, Hebrew, born at Trofimouka, last permanent residence TOKYO, JAPAN. The compiled register has this line as a journalist aged 50 bound for the United States, with no given name at all. Age and occupation agree independently of the name, and the manifest supplies what the register lacked: he was Dawid Lejbus. That his last permanent residence is given as Tokyo rather than a Polish town is itself a record of how long the wait in Japan had become. He was detained on arrival with the rest of the sheet.
