  Line 7 of the sheet, and it returns a name the ledger never carried. NAIMARK, DAWID LEJBUS, 50, married, JOURNALIST, Polish, Hebrew, born at Trofimouka, last permanent residence TOKYO, JAPAN. The compiled register has this line as a journalist aged 50 bound for the United States, with no given name at all. Age and occupation agree independently of the name, and the manifest supplies what the register lacked: he was Dawid Lejbus. That his last permanent residence is given as Tokyo rather than a Polish town is itself a record of how long the wait in Japan had become. He was detained on arrival with the rest of the sheet.

The register's compiled line gives 1890, and the two are 1 year apart. The name occurs once on the register, and a Polish-born passenger landing at Seattle in 1941 fits the route through Japan, so the entry is taken as this person's under the archive's rule of 19 September 2026 for records from the route.

  Dawid Lejbus Naimark, known in the Bund as 'Arye', had written for many years for the Warsaw Folkstsaytung. He escaped to Vilna in 1939 and was among the Bundists brought to America with the help of the Jewish Labor Committee. In New York he wrote for the Forverts and other Bund papers. He died in New York on 10 September 1960, aged 69, as the Bund's Tel Aviv paper Lebns-fragn reported on 1 October 1960 (National Library of Israel, Historical Jewish Press).
