  AFTER THE RESCUE: Samuil Manski, who reached Seattle on the Hie Maru in July 1941, became a congregant of Temple Emeth in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and — in the congregation's own words — 'was instrumental in the memorial's planning and implementation' when a memorial to Chiune Sugihara was dedicated on the temple grounds in April 2000. He told his own story in a book, 'With God's Help'. A Sugihara Memorial Committee of temple members and the Boston area's Japanese community has held an annual programme at the garden since.
