The register's compiled line gives 1898, and the two are 0 years apart, and the name occurs once on the register. The ship's manifest heading says she sailed from Manila, not Shanghai, so the crossing does not by itself place this person on the route; held as a lead.   A list of refugees processed in Shanghai by the American Joint Distribution Committee's migration department in early 1946 names Oswald Warhaftig, of 1620 Donada, Manila, as the contact in the Philippines for Ignatz Warhaftig, then living at 630 Muirhead Road, Shanghai. The register's Oswald Warhaftig was bound for the Philippines, and the name is rare; but the list gives nothing else about the man in Manila, so the archive holds this as a lead until a record about him — an arrival, a residence paper, a family — says more.
