  The International Tracing Service's file on a compensation claim made for him in Germany in 1956–59 (Arolsen Archives, 6.3.3.2, case 558.957): the ITS certified on 22 January 1957 that 'Licht, Abram Saul', born 26 April 1921 at Lublin, a rabbinical student, 'arrived in Shanghai on 30 August 1941 coming from Wilna, via Siberia; registered by HIAS in Shanghai on 18 December 1945' — and reported, from HIAS Shanghai's records, a 'Licht, Abraham' who sailed from Shanghai for the United States aboard the Marine Lynx on 11 August 1946, adding that with so few particulars it could not say whether that entry was his. On his own form (1959) he gave his parents as Jakob and Gitla née Gordin, his last address before the persecution as Siennica, his war as 'Ghetto Shanghai' (15 May 1943 – 18 August 1945), his emigration as August 1946, Shanghai to San Francisco by the Marine Lynx, and himself as a rabbi and, by then, an American citizen. The file holds no record of any imprisonment and says nothing of his death.

  The World Jewish Congress's list of Poles in Shanghai looking for relatives in Poland, dated 25 December 1945 and read in the Arolsen Archives' online collection on 18 September 2026 (3.1.1.3, DocID 78796209), carries 'Licht, Abram Saul' twice as a petitioner in Shanghai: he was looking for Gitla Licht and for Sala Scharfstein, both last at Izbica. The list gives no birth data. It is joined to this page because the same double name was registered with HIAS Shanghai in the same week (entry 4541, 18 December 1945, born 26 April 1921 at Lublin — the date on the family's Beth Din certificate) and the HIAS pages read today show no other Licht. Who Gitla and Sala were to him the list does not say.

The register's compiled line gives 1921, and the two are 3 years apart, and the name occurs once on the register. The ship's manifest heading says she sailed from Shanghai, and a passenger born in Poland landing at San Francisco in 1946 from Shanghai is the route's end: the refugees who waited out the war there. So the entry is taken as this person's under the archive's rule of 19 September 2026 for records from the route.
