"California, Los Angeles, Passenger Lists, 1907-1948", FamilySearch — index entry for Marek Vel Moses-Nathan Weinfeld, 1940: born about 1897, Gorlice, Poland. Digitised from NARA microfilm publication M1764 (passenger lists of vessels ar… The manifest sheet itself is headed 'From Yokohama to Santos': a Japanese liner that sailed from Yokohama on 24 December 1940 for Brazil, calling at the port of Los Angeles on the way. Its second line is Weinfeld Marek vel Moses-Nathan, aged 43, married, a manufacturer, reading Polish and German, Polish, born at Gorlice, travelling on a Polish passport issued on 4 December 1940, with no American visa because he was only passing through. The inspector examined him at Los Angeles on 7 January 1941 and recorded his departure with the ship from San Pedro on 8 January, bound for Santos. The register's line has no age; the Kobe lists are silent on his destination; but a Polish-born man leaving Japan on a Sugihara visa in December 1940 for Brazil is the route, and the name occurs once on the register. The sheet was read on David Rosen's pointer of 6 October 2026, which also supplied the alias form.
