What is known

This is a certificate of Polish citizenship bearing a Dutch 'Surinam and Curaçao' destination visa signed by consul Jan Zwartendijk in Kaunas on 29 July 1940, together with a Japanese transit visa dated 30 July 1940 stamped by Chiune Sugihara's one-man consulate in Kaunas. The same document later received a British visa issued in Kobe, Japan on 25 July 1941, permitting onward travel to New Zealand via Australia, illustrating how a refugee's journey continued well beyond Japan.
