The Montevideo Maru's manifest, found by David Rosen and transcribed by FamilySearch, lists Syma Wolanow, born 1901 at Warsaw, arriving at Los Angeles on 12 December 1940 from Kobe with Yakob Wolanow, born 1894, and the children Celina Malka, born 1924, and Zozislaw, born 1929. The compiled line has her 38 in 1940, so born about 1902, and the Shanghai ledger's family note names the same husband and children; the entry is hers. Where the family went on from Los Angeles is not yet known. - "California, Los Angeles, Passenger Lists, 1907-1948", FamilySearch — index entry for Syma Wolanow, 1940: born about 1901, Warsaw, Poland. FamilySearch's index of the Los Angeles passenger lists, read by the archive on 20 September 2026, has Syma Wolanow, born about 1901 in Warsaw, Poland, arriving at Los Angeles in 1940. The register's compiled line gives 1902, and the two are 1 year apart. The name occurs once on the register, and a Polish-born passenger landing at Los Angeles in 1940 fits the route through Japan, so the entry is taken as this person's under the archive's rule of 19 September 2026 for records from the route. - List of Refugees, Vilna, 1940 — JDC Archives, New York, collection AR 33/44, file 00876.
