  FamilySearch's index of the San Francisco passenger lists, read by the archive on 20 September 2026, has Lejba Baranowicz, born about 1910 in Poland, arriving at San Francisco in 1946 on the General M. C. Meigs. The register's compiled line gives 1912, and the two are 2 years apart, and the name occurs once on the register. The ship's manifest heading says she sailed from Shanghai, and a passenger born in Poland landing at San Francisco in 1946 from Shanghai is the route's end: the refugees who waited out the war there. So the entry is taken as this person's under the archive's rule of 19 September 2026 for records from the route.   Lejba Baranowicz became HaRav Aryeh Leib Baron, for twenty-four years the rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Merkaz HaTorah in Montreal, where he lived for fifty-eight years. The Jerusalem weekly Dei'ah veDibur, whose obituary of 6 October 2011 gives his family name as Baranowitz, says he was born at Horodok in 1912, studied at the Mir, and went with the yeshiva to Kobe and then Shanghai, coming to America with it in 1946 — the name, the year, the town and the route all agree with the register's line and the archive's other records. He died in October 2011 and was buried in Jerusalem.
